Vivian is a champ for not only putting up with my explanation of square-rig seamanship and terminology for an hour, but even having (or doing a good job faking) enthusiasm about it.
Picture 1: Sails and rigging. This is a forestack, but you can get a sense of how it’s all arranged and the amount of stuff that’s up there in the rig.

SS Sorlandet, a 1927 fully rigged tall ship and the Class Afloat campus.
Several friends were sailing aboard her this last semester; it is a tempting program if ever I’ve seen one.

We were docked across from Moshulu in Philly. One day, we saw a guy actually laid out on the lower main top yard and we were really excited for the ship, until we realized he was just up there to fix broken Christmas lights.
